More than 100 students were suspended from Wilson County high schools Wednesday for violations of the dress code, spokesman Bob Kendell said. The total attendance of the three schools is about 3,500 students.

Wednesday was the first day that new penalties applied to dress code offenders. In the past, a first offense earned lunch detention, a second, after-school detention and a third, a three-day suspension. Beginning Wednesday, every dress code violator will be suspended for three days, Kendell said.

The dress code specifically forbids low-riding pants and un-tucked shirts.
