Happy Mother’s Day weekend!

I (kind of?) took the easy way out with this week's weekend activities post by writing another article that features 17 places you can take Mom this weekend. It includes something for every mom - from soccer and baseball games for the sports-loving mom to food truck roundups for the foodie mom to craft opportunities for the crafty mom. There’s even a Hamilton-related activity! Check out that post for many more ways to make memories with your family this weekend.

And here are a few more ideas …

Strawberry picking

Our strawberry farm database has the details about pick-your-own farms and farm stands where you can find the fresh berries. The season doesn’t last forever, so be sure to get to the fields before it’s over.

Raleigh

A kids art show, make and take craft and street painting workshop is noon to 3 p.m., Saturday, at Sertoma Arts Center, 1400 W. Millbrook Rd., Raleigh. It's free.
Bloom Raleigh, an event for new and expecting moms, is 9 a.m. to noon, Saturday, at WakeMed North Hospital, 10000 Falls of Neuse Rd. Tickets start at $10. This event is geared toward moms who are currently expecting a baby, had a baby within the last year, foster moms of infants, or are planning on growing their family soon through birth or adoption.
Raleigh-based neon artist Nate Sheaffer will debut his interactive public art installation at Dorothea Dix Park titled Light the Woods with Sound on Friday. This one-of-a-kind installation will be on display Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings through May 27. Performances will begin at 8 p.m. This looks like a lot of fun.

Durham

The Museum of Life and Science will host Scientist Saturday from 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Saturday. It’s free with museum admission. Join a scientist that studies the health benefits of being in nature as we explore the air, plants, and animals around us.
And another Mother's Day event to add to the list ... Barley Labs, a dog-friendly taproom, bottle and gift shop at 4015 University Dr., will host a Mother's Day Cupcake and Beer Flight, featuring four mini cupcakes from Not Just Icing paired with four flight-size beers. It's noon to 5 p.m., Sunday. Tickets are $18.

Cary

Ritmo Latino is noon to 6:30 p.m., Saturday, at the Town Hall Campus, 316 N. Academy St. The free festival showcases Latino music, dance and visual arts. There will be a variety of crafts and foods, along with a large area with activities for kids.
Saturday is Princess Day at Smallcakes Cary, 1132 Parkside Main St., Cary. It’s 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Come dressed as royalty to get a free mini cupcake.
Cary’s Sertoma Series, featuring outdoor music at Sertoma Amphitheatre, 801 High House Rd., starts up for the season with a concert from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., Saturday. The Monitors will be on stage performing jazz music. They have been the backup band for celebrity artists such as Otis Redding, Millie Jackson, Major Lance and many others. It’s free and open to the public. Bring a chair and a picnic.

Holly Springs
