A mother was backing out of her driveway and hit her 1-year-old son Monday night, according to a spokesperson with the town of Cary.

A 1-year-old boy was seriously injured when he was struck by a car his mother was operating in a Cary driveway, authorities said.

The incident happened at about 7:30 p.m., in the 100 block of Peg Street.
