1 person dead, 4 others injured after truck crashes near Sampson County home

Authorities took the four people injured to the hospital. The extent of their injuries is unknown as of Monday evening.

NEWTON GROVE, N.C. — A driver died and four others were injured Monday after a truck crashed into a home, according to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.

The crash involved two cars and happened at the intersection of Church Road and Warren Mill Road, the Highway Patrol said.

A preliminary investigation found a 26-year-old woman was traveling east on Warren Mill Road. Eddie Swindell, 75, of Newton Grove, was traveling south on Church Road.

The woman failed ot yield while crossing the road and pulled into Swindell's path, the Highway Patrol said.

The Highway Patrol said after impact, the truck driven by Swindell overturned and ran off the road and stopped in a yard.

Swindell died of his injuries, the Highway Patrol said.

Authorities took the four people injured to the hospital. The extent of their injuries is unknown as of Monday evening.

The State Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
