1 man dead after early morning Rocky Mount shooting, 2 charged with murder

Rocky Mount police are looking into a shooting that sent a man to the hospital on Sunday morning.

ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. — Two people are charged with first-degree murder after a 33-year-old man was found shot to death in the street on Sunday morning in Rocky Mount.

Officers found Antoine Armstead in the road with a gunshot wound along the 400 block of Madison Street after 4 a.m. He was taken to UNC Nash Healthcare and in critical condition Sunday morning.

Rocky Mount police said just before 2:00 p.m., Armstead died from his injuries at Vidant Medical Center.

Rashon Knight, 36, was arrested and charged with first-degree murder. He is being held at the Edgecombe County Detention Center with no bond.

Masia Griffin, 23, has a warrant out for his arrest but police have not yet been able to find him.

Investigators said that Armstead was shot a local poolroom located just down the street from where he was found.
