1 killed in fiery single-vehicle wreck on I-40

Authorities blocked off the right lane of Interstate 40 east at Wade Avenue early Thursday morning to investigate a fiery crash that killed one person.

RALEIGH, N.C. — Authorities blocked off the right lane of Interstate 40 east at Wade Avenue early Thursday to investigate a fiery crash that killed one person.

A driver in a 2002 Toyota Camry veered right, crossed three lanes and left the highway, and the car struck a tree and caught fire, police said.

The identity of the driver, who was alone in the car, hasn't been released.
