BENSON, N.C. — A man died and a woman was seriously injured in a single-vehicle wreck on Tuesday night along Highway 210 in Johnston County.

Troopers say the driver lost control and the car went airborne before rolling into a power pole that toppled on a 29-year-old man ejected from the car. He died.

The woman landed more than 100 feet away from the car. She was taken to WakeMed with critical injuries.

Troopers are still working to determine who was driving. They do know that neither the man or woman was wearing a seat belt.

Authorities said speed was a factor in the crash.

The accident shut down N.C. Highway 210 between McGee's Crossroads and Angier while the Highway Patrol investigated. It reopened around midnight.
