GOLDSBORO, N.C. — A man has died after a building collapsed on him at a home on Longs Plant Farm Road in Goldsboro Saturday afternoon.

Officials said a 911 caller stated that a building had collapsed with someone inside at 320 Longs Plant Farm Road.

Investigators spent hours on scene of the home piecing together what family members call a tragic accident.

Family members tell WRAL News the victim is 64-year-old Alex Economy Jr.

They said he was working around his home and was trying to move what appears to be a storage unit.

A spokesman for Wayne County tells WRAL News a person called 911 stating the building collapsed on Economy.

That caller says they were unable to perform CPR on him because the structure was on top of him.

One of his friends told WRAL News it landed on his chest.

People living nearby are devastated by this tragedy. Many of them said the man who died “was a good man” and “was the best neighbor.”
