RALEIGH, N.C. — One North Carolina contestant advanced to the top 12 Monday night while another will have another chance to perform on "The Voice."
Tar Heel voters had to take action while the show was airing to help Rayshun Lamarr, a Chapel Hill native, and Britton Buchanan, from Sanford, move to the next rounds of the reality singing show. Four contestants were singing for votes to be instantly moved into the top 12.
How to vote for "The Voice" contestants

Buchanan sang "Some Kind of Wonderful" by Grand Funk Railroad and the Team Alicia singer was saved from elimination.

While Buchanan was singing in Los Angeles, he was getting a lot of support at home as people gathered for a watch party at the Karma Coffee Bar in Sanford to cheer him on.

Lamarr did not advance to the top 12 with his rendition of Stevie Wonder's "Overjoyed", but he will have another chance to perform this week.

In Chapel Hill, family and friends gathered at the Hargraves Community Center to watch Lamarr perform. His road to the national stage includes fighting cancer and a rare disease that temporarily took his hearing, vision and voice.

Over the next two nights, the 20 remaining artists will perform live. Members of Team Alicia and Team Blake will perform Tuesday and members of Team Kelly and Team Adam will perform Wednesday. At the end of Wednesday night's show, the full top 12 will be revealed.

Producers have thrown a twist into voting this week.

Voting for Voice favorites must take place in real-time as the show is airing.

The show will air three times this week on NBC and WRAL TV: from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Monday and from 8 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Tuesday and Wednesday's bonus episode.

Here's how to vote once host Carson Daly announces that real-time voting is open:

  • Download the official Voice app, which is available for download on the Apple App Store, Google Play, and Amazon Appstore. Viewers can cast up to 10 votes per artist per team.
  • Cast a vote through Twitter by tweeting dedicated hashtags announced on the show’s official handle @NBCTheVoice.

According to NBC, viewers in the Eastern and Central time zones will be able to watch and vote during the live show.

Viewers in the West and Mountain time zones will also be able to cast their vote on “The Voice” Official App and tweet their choice at the same time as the Eastern and Central time zones if they are following the @NBCTheVoice handle, which will announce which artists are eligible.

Unless the show's producers decide to change it up again, after this week, voting will proceed as usual by using a dedicated Twitter hashtag announced during the show; casting a vote at NBC.com/VoiceVote; voting via iTunes by purchasing eligible songs from the contestant; vote by streaming eligible songs on Apple Music.
