SANFORD, N.C. — He may have finished in second place on "The Voice," but in Sanford, Britton Buchanan is a big winner.

On Wednesday, the 18-year-old went back to Lee County High School - the place where he penned his hit single, “Where You Come From,” in chemistry class.

It was his first time back since he returned from Los Angeles, but Buchanan said very little has changed, despite his new-found fame.

"Nothing has changed. We still get in my car, or his car, and literally do nothing but just drive around with the windows rolled down and listen to Tom Petty, Bruce Springsteen and Paul Simon," Buchanan said, describing his favorite pastime with his best friend, Patrick Wolf.

First name Moraski was Buchanan's honors chemistry teacher during his junior year, where the teen calculated lyrics over formulas.

"Now, there's time at the end of class when I let the kids work on homework, maybe instead of homework he was writing," Moraski joked with Buchanan.

Buchanan said the lyrics to his hit song came to him in 10 minutes. The tune was in his head.

Continuing his journey around his school and small town, it was clear that Buchanan's roots run deep.

The soon-to-be high school graduate has sold out four shows at the 330-seat Temple Theater in Sanford.
