RALEIGH, N.C. — It has been a little more than three months since Halifax County native Brooke Simpson placed third on "The Voice," but the 26-year-old has not slowed down since.

Simpson said she has spent the last few months learning the ins and the outs of the music industry.

"Life after 'The Voice' has been really hectic, really crazy, but in the best way possible," she said. "I've just been traveling a lot, touring and uh, I actually recorded a single."

Simpson's new single, "2 am," was released in February. She said the song is personal.

"I can't believe the whole year is over now and after all of this thinking and crying I just looked at my phone and it said 2 a.m. No one prepares you for this part. Everyone prepares you for the glitz and glam, but not for 2 a.m," she said.

Simpson is taking her music on the road and wrapped up a concert in Louisburg over the weekend. And while her fan base ranges from children to adults, she says the kids hold a special place in her heart.

"I just want to remind them it does not matter how many nos you get. All it takes is that one yes," she said. "To follow their dreams and nothing is too outrageous or out of the norm or impossible."

Simpson also has advice for current contestants on "The Voice.”

"I would say be yourself because it is going to be annoying trying to be someone else, no matter how many nos you get ... but again, even when you get a no, it's OK because your yes is coming," she said.

As Simpson looks toward her own future, she is ready to take on whatever comes her way.

"I love being able to travel and share my gift, to not only sing the songs I was fortunate to sing on "The Voice," but to be able to sing originals that I am writing and letting people hear my heart. It's just really cool," she said.

Simpson said despite the travel, she is forever grateful to all of her North Carolina fans, and that the Tar Heel State will always be home.

She and her husband are preparing to move to LA so she can continue to pursue her career.
