NORFOLK, VA. — An 18-year-old Norfolk, Va. woman suffered a major burn when she fell asleep on her charging iPhone.

Raele Manning-Moore still bears the scar of a month-old injury.

“I hope my phone is never going to burn me again,” she said. “I’ve never been in that much pain, ever.”

Manning-Moore is just like any other 18-year-old who needs their phone to survive, but for the past couple of weeks, she has been without the device. Manning-Moore said it all started when she went to bed with her phone charging next to her.

“The burn woke me up, burning so bad it was like really hurting,” she said.

The 18-year-old believes she was lying on her iPhone 7 and it became overheated.

“I was like ‘wow, my phone literally just burned me to the point that there’s a blister. My skin is gone,’” she said.

Manning-Moore took her phone to an Apple Store, where staff told her they wanted to look at it. Two weeks later, it still hasn’t been given back.

“They wanted to see what happened with the phone, like what caused it,” she said.

Apple said they are looking into the situation and asked if Manning-Moore was using a factory charger, which she said she was.
