LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA — The final four contestants on “The Voice” had the final chance to sing for votes Monday night and Sanford native Britton Buchanan opted to sing an original song when he took to the stage.

Buchanan said he presented dozens of original songs to coach Alicia Keys before Monday's performance, noting that he has been ready to launch his musical career since before he joined the singing competition.

"I've had it ready for a while now. I'm just waiting for a band and a studio and a platform," he said. "It's been pure joy, not like one second of this has been a burden or stressful or anything."

Buchanan said that Monday's performances were the most fun he has had in his life and he'll be happy with the outcome even if he doesn't win Tuesday night.

"It would mean a lot to me to win, but at the end of the day, I would feel good either way," he said. "The other three [contestants] deserve it just as much as I do."

While Buchanan was performing live in Los Angeles, his family and friends in Sanford were cheering him on at a watch party at Lee County High School, where Buchanan is a senior.

Buchanan’s hometown has been a central part of his story since he started his journey on “The Voice” and the people of Sanford have not left his side. A handful of those cheering him on Monday night had a front row seat to his journey since day one.

“Jan. 20, 2000, I was in the delivery room the day [Buchanan] was born and who would’ve thought 18 years later I’m watching you on national television,” Buchanan’s aunt, Danielle Riddle said.

Riddle watched nervously, as only a beloved aunt could, as her nephew took the stage.

Buchanan’s friends, family and classmates filled the auditorium of Lee County High School, cheering and hopefully voting him on as the winner of “The Voice.”

“For all of us to be able to come together and rally around this kid who is so incredibly talented is just great. Everybody from every walk of life is into this show this season and supporting Britton,” watch party organizer Jennifer St. Clair said.

The group wore shirts to proudly proclaim themselves as members of “Team Britton” and everyone at the watch party said they believe in his abilities.

Those who know Buchanan best say it’s what he believes that has brought him so far.

“Britton writes this on his arm with a Sharpie every night he performs. He writes ‘faith will be rewarded’ and I think it will, regardless. Win or lose, it’ll be rewarded,” one friend said.

Buchanan’s parents were in California to watch their son perform in person for the finale. Buchanan’s father, Todd Buchanan, said he is preparing to be the father of a potential superstar.

"His mother and I have raised him to be who he is, not to change for anybody, so I think he will keep his feet firmly planted on the ground. He's from a small town with small town values and I think that will persist through his career," he said.
