RALEIGH, N.C. — The Wake County Sheriff’s Office was investigating a shooting at a privately owned Raleigh gun shop Tuesday afternoon after an attempted robbery led to an exchange of gunfire.

Authorities said that two men attempted to enter and rob Jim’s Gun Shop at 609 Woodland Road just after 4:30 p.m.. The men thought nobody was inside the business, which is in the back of what appears to be a home.

Sheriff Donnie Harrison said one employee and one customer in the store saw the two men go by the window through a carport.

Several minutes later, the two men attempted to come in through a door. A struggle ensued and the employee fired on one of the men, Harrison said. Authorities were not sure if the suspect suffered gunshot wounds.

The two men fled the scene in a green sedan. Authorities did not release a description of the men.

Authorities said the men should be considered armed and dangerous.
