Northgate Mall in Durham has two new kid-friendly spots.

Pampered Prince-ss, a full service hair salon specializing in children’s hair care and specialty birthday parties for children age 0 to 14, is open in suite 856 near Entrance 4. Owner Marci Hudson and her three stylists bring dozens of years of combined professional experience, according to a press release. The business was formerly located in Cary.

Pampered Prince-ss offers a full menu of hair and beauty styling for kids, including haircuts, temporary color, nails, and makeup, along with specialty hair embellishments such as fairy hair, stencils and glitter and workshops on hair braiding.

Birthday parties for up to six children - boys and girls - are available. Packages start at $250 and include cuts, manicures and pedicures for girls. Boys can enjoy hair gels, spiked styles, color and mohawks. Packages also include dancing, music, gift baskets and a birthday cake.

It's open 8 a.m. to noon and 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., weekdays; 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., Saturdays; and by appointment on Sundays.

And, Northgate has opened up another ride for kids (in addition to its carousel, a kiddie train with a safari theme this summer, a bounce house and coin-operated kiddie rides).

The Zoo Rides are furry motorized rides, which can be found in Northgate's Sears wing. They feature large-scale electric furry animals that kids can ride. The dozen choices include a panda bear, tiger, mouse, bull, cow, rhino, elephant and dinosaur. The cost is $6 for 10 minutes and $10 for 20 minutes. They are open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Thursday; 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., Friday and Saturday; and noon to 6 p.m., Sunday.

Northgate Mall is located at 1058 West Club Blvd. in Durham
