— A 34-year-old Zebulon man is facing charges after, police say, he broke in to a woman's apartment Monday morning, threatened her with a large hunting knife, tied her up and sexually assaulted her.

Michael Allyn Gall, of 251 Yellow Belle Court, was taken to WakeMed for a psychological evaluation. After his release, he will be charged with first-degree kidnapping, first-degree rape, first-degree forcible sex offense and breaking and entering, police said.

The alleged assault happened before 8 a.m., after which Gall untied the victim and escaped through a back door. His car was later found on Mallie Pearce Road in rural Franklin County.

After a four-hour manhunt in a wooded, swampy area near the car, authorities found Gall, who was taken into custody after a short struggle around 1:30 p.m.

Police said Gall tried to cut his own throat and slit his wrists, but he only suffered minor injuries.

Gall and the victim knew each other, police said.

If he wanted to hurt himself he would have he could have easily cut his throat why he didn't is what he will use in court to help his defense.

I have always wondered what type disorder a man has when he has control of a woman by violence, she is being assaulted, and he can have an erection? Is it Total Depravity?

I am so sorry for the lady that was hurt in this situation.

Family, friends and others posting on here, please protect her identity on here. She has been through enough and doesn't need her personal identity blasted on the media site unless she wants to put her name out here.

Well at least put him in a ward of some sort. Praying for the family. When I was in high school one of my best friends had two guys break into her home tie her up in her bed and raped her. Then set the house on fire as they ran away. The parents was out of town. Sad she knew the two mean who did it. SO SO SAD

There is "help" for rapists. It's called prison. It keeps the rest of us safe from violent people who have "problems."

I've known Mike for 7 years. I know this is out of character for him. What he did was wrong and he knows it. I hope he can finally get the help he needs.

I know that you are a family member and I am so sorry for you. But...you are ignorant if you think that the SURVIVOR is a part of the problem. Just think about what you would do if this was our experience. We are all responsible for our actions and reactions even if we do have a mental break.

I knew Michael probable better than any of you on here and this is not the young man I've known all his life. He would never do this to anyone under normal circumstances. He was a loving man. I guess all the stress he has been under lately took its toll on his stability. I pray for him! I support him! I will stand by him! I do feel sorry for the victim however I am not convinced she is not part of the problem. I have faith in our justice system and I again...pray for it to do what is right. Michael needs help. His son will always have a father no matter what happens.

Life in prison for this man. He has serious problems. I do hope the young lady will be OK in time and will get counseling to help her.

Knowing this man personally, and the victim in this case. I will say this. My heart goes out to the victim I am sorry for what she went through. And by no means am I condoning the actions of the accused. But I do know this man and some of his history. It looks to me like he has suffered some kind of mental break down. Does he deserve prison YES does he deserve the RSO list YES. But he also needs help Long term psychiatric help.
