— The Town Board suspended Zebulon Town Manager Richard Hardin with pay on Monday following his weekend arrest on a driving while impaired charge, Mayor Robert Matheny said.

Hardin, 52, of 615 Stratford Drive in Zebulon, was pulled over Sunday at the intersection of Glenwood Avenue and Argyle Drive, near Carolina Country Club, according to arrest records.

No other information about his arrest was available.

Matheny said the Town Board met behind closed doors Monday evening to discuss the situation. The suspension is "pending further consideration," he said, declining to comment further.

Tough situation right there. On one hand I say treat him like all the college/pro athletes that get caught. Suspend and/or reprimand him. But on the other hand, had he killed someone I would be calling for higher punishment. I would not like to see him lose his livelihood over this, but I hope he does receive a punishment that's fitting that also makes him rethink driving while under ANY influence of alcohol

I know that drinking and driving is against the law but people make mistakes and they should not lose their job unless it has affected their jobs directly or they have to drive for their job. I have never had a DUI, DWI but know it can happen to many people. Sad and hope he does not lose his job!!

Why? If he worked for a non-government company he most probably would not be fired, unless his job included having to drive other than to and from work.

Same old tired rhetoric. Why do you hate law enforcement?

Difference here is that he was arrested. Not the same thing as being "pulled over". I'm sure they hauled in a completely sober man. Right?!?

None of is is perfect. Considering the plethora of laws each of us 'technically' break everyday, why does this arbitrary litmus test of DUI leave an otherwise promising career hanging on a thread? Another of example of PC rush to judgement.
