@Sinbad, great story on your Cobra Shaver (trademark). I wonder if Ford thought of that for marketing purposes.

Had nearly the same thing happen in an old Buick in the pre airbag days. It knocked the autotrans into neutral...gave me quite the scare...thought the whole drivetrain was gone.

Quite right about following along behind a truck….

I was in a Mustang Cobra, at about 60 MPH behind a semi; I was MUCH further back than I really needed to be by Law…

All of a sudden, a dead deer came out from under the back of the trailer. The truck had straddled it quite nicely; my low-slung Cobra shaved the top of the deer equally nicely.

It took me hours to clean the remnants of Bamby out from the bottom of my car. Even so, I was lucky: That sort of impact could have easily activated the air bag….

Moral of the story: Maintain a safe interval….

Something to think about... When following a large vehicle that you can't see around (like a large SUV or semi), stay back further than the standard 2 second following distance. If people in front of him crash, you won't see the accident and your braking distance suddenly is truncated (shortened) by the crash.

Basically, the vehicle in front of you could stop (from impact) in a much shorter distance than 2 seconds. Add in darkness, rain, mist, ... it's worse.

    Let's be careful out there.
