Zebulon man arrested on sexting charge

Posted September 1, 2010

Johnathon Allen Smith, 18, of 2821 Jack Mitchell Road in Zebulon, was arrested Tuesday for exchanging sexual pictures and text messages with a 14-year-old girl, the Wake County Sheriff's Office said.

According to the warrant for his arrest, Smith sent explicit photos of himself to the girl and asked her to send photos "depicting sexual acts or poses."

He was being held Wednesday on $60,000 bond on charges of sexual exploitation and dissemination of obscene material.

women and girls do lie so where have you been. That young man should not be the only one held accountable for this. The girl is just as much at fault as he is, I don't care how old she is. Plus , how long ago did this happen and why now is he being charged? This is one law that really needs to be re evaluated.

elcid892, women & girls never lie about their age. Next question? ;-)

Same thing happens with teenage girls whose parents find out they've been having sex with their 18 or 19 year old boyfriend. They bring the girl into the ER for a "rape" kit and then charges are pressed and what was most likely a mutual sex act becomes a crime and a young man has to pay for it forever by being registered as a sex offender. That is wrong! If she sent him pictures, she should charged with something, too.

freewill, yes I hav accepted Christ, But this was more than a LITTLE wrong!!! DUH! But you are right both should be charged. Just because parents are too blind to see the WRONG their children do is no excuse!!

This time last year the headline would have been "Zebulon BOY arrested on sexting charge."

Look! No one should be doing this stuff, PERIOD.

I have to agree with elcid892. Did the girl lie about her age? Now a days girls look ALOT older..What happened to parents handling things between parents, you know DISCIPLINE!! Why does a 14 year old have a cell phone anyway.. I didn't get my kids a phone until they were 16, just b/c they were driving and if something happened they could get in touch with me..Wonder if the girl sent any pics..And if she did, she knows better, right is right and wrong is wrong..Didn't anyone play true or dare, spin the bottle, strip poker, or look at dirty magazines when you were younger..What if she would have gotten caught with a Playgirl, would the parents sue the company b/c there are nude men in there...Yea what he did was a LITTLE wrong, but it shouldn't be criminal.. This world is going down fast..Hope everyone has accepted Christ.. Ya'll have a blessed day!! : )

"What he did was WRONG and he needs to pay for it. He was 18; an adult; and he knew better!"

Yeah, because 18 year olds typically have their heads on straight. Anyways, what he did was wrong... but does he need to pay for it with his life? Because that is exactly what has happened. For the rest of life he will be considered a pedophile/sexual offender/predator.

I agree that what he did was wrong...but, I think the bond is too high. And, I really don't think he should have to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life. It sounds like it was a mutual thing and I wonder if he knew her true age. It's hard to put him in the same category as a 40+ year old man that has molested a child. That's what happens when you register him as a sex offender.
