Your favorite frugal Mother's Day gifts

Posted May 8, 2013

With Mother's Day just around the corner, I am wondering what frugal Mother's Day gifts you have received or given. What were your favorites?  What are you giving your Mom this year?

Some of my most treasured gifts from my girls are drawings, cards and crafts. I keep them all and someday (soon) they will take over my office and the refrigerator door completely!  I also love when each year, my youngest daughter brings me breakfast in bed. It's the best cereal and juice ever made!

Above you can see a picture of my mom and my daughters while we were all walking in the Ovarian Cancer Awareness March a number of years ago. She was pretty sick at that point so it was an effort for her to make it the last bit of the 2 mile walk. But she was determined to finish and with a little help from her granddaughters, she did. That is one of the greatest gifts I hope my girls learn from her grandmother - stay strong and never give up!

Wishing all the Moms out there a very Happy Mother's Day on Sunday!

My daughter made me a card last year. She had googled "mom sayings" and added her own too. It is really one of the sweetest things I've ever received. My day this year is church and then hopefully just time at home with my family.

I'm so sorry you're having to endure Mother's Day so soon after the loss of your mother. It's been 3 1/2 years since I lost my mom and I still miss her so much that it hurts. Nakabi, I agree with you, too...my heart goes out to all those who are struggling to have a child or have lost a child. We struggled to get pregnant and are so blessed to have our 3 beautiful girls. Their mere presence and the joy they give me is the best present ever. I am so happy with the cards and gifts they make me. There have been a lot of whispered conversations and planning going on with them this week. :)
Faye, your mom looks beautiful and I know your daughters treasure this memory with her as much as you do.

Kathy, you have my sincere condolences on the loss of your mom. The rose bush sounds lovely and I hope you enjoy your breakfast on Sunday.

    Watchhillgirl - well said.

3boys3 - how sweet that one of your children is a Mother's Day baby! And I am so glad I could help with your sinuses. :-)

Thanks to all for sharing your frugal flowers and gifts.

Chesirekat1964, I am so sorry for your loss. I lost my Mom 1.5 years ago, and it is still hard. I am missing her alot lately. Everyone, please remember your mothers this weekend. When they are gone, there is an emptiness that just can't be filled. I am happy to have my children to celebrate the holiday...but I still miss mine.

My mom is getting a flower arrangement from all of us. Saw several daily deals on Amazon local.

I'm thinking about picking up some of the butterfly attracting annuals from the Aldi flyer ($3.99).

This will be my 1st Mother's Day without my mom, she lost her battle with brain cancer about 2 weeks ago. When we got back from NJ I went out and bought a apple red pot for our deck and planted a yellow rose bush in her memory. My husband is taking me out for breakfast Sunday, which was my mom's favorite meal. I wish all the moms a Happy Mother's Day.

Groupon has a $20 for $40 with FTD. I had a $10 credit for referring someone to Groupon. So, I purchased my mother the miniature rose bush for $19.99. While fresh cut roses look beautiful...they are just not that practical. Now she can plant her rose bush and enjoy it year round. Just a warning though, shipping is pretty expensive. By the time it was all said and done the total was 39.98 but using the groupon with the $10 credit, I didn't have to pay anything at checkout. My mother always said to give her her flowers while she's living. She's the best.

Well...I've had me a good cry!...between Fayes and OxymoronO2 stories my eyes and sinuses are now clear. My middle son was born on Mothers day...made that 9lb 10 1/2 oz..a little more tolerable!

Such a sweet story about your daughter, jcook. She sounds lovely and I hope you have a wonderful dinner with her!

My daughter is cooking me dinner this year (she is 28 years old) and that means more to me than anything. She's really my step-daughter but I've raised her since she was 9 years old and we are pretty close. I have never called her my step-daughter. The first time she called me "mama" my heart melted and it still does. I lost my mama 23 years ago and every day I miss her more and more. My peonies are in bloom right now and that was her favorite flower. They always remind me of her. She was the best mama in the world!
