You came to @NCCapitol for some education in 2014

Seven of the 10 most read blog posts on @NCCapitol in 2014 had to do with education topics.

RALEIGH, N.C. — We've always said covering state government is quite an education for @NCCapitol's writers and editors, but it was education stories that brought you to our blog during 2014.

Of our 10 most-read individual posts of the year, seven were on education topics. No. 1 by far was a daily turn by Laura Leslie on a Superior Court decision that struck down a law that would have prodded veteran teachers to give up their tenure rights.

In fact, 23 of the year's top 50 posts dealt with education as a major theme of the story. That makes sense because education was a major topic in the news this year, from pay raises for teachers to proposals to dump the state's use of Common Core educational standards for public schools.

Aside from education pieces, other stories in our top 10 list – not including @NCCapitol's main page – included news that congressional candidate and former Commerce Secretary Keith Crisco had died in a fall, our running blog of news on Election Day and coverage of a claim by the state NAACP that Republican Thom Tillis won his U.S. Senate campaign due to new voter laws.

If you're inclined to tiptoe through our top 50 posts, you will find them below. One note: our system begins counting visitors again when a story's headline changes. For example, the Crisco story shows up twice, once with its original breaking news headline and a second time with the headline it got following a write-though of the story.
