YMCA of the Triangle adds Chapel Hill, Carrboro, Chatham County to footprint

Posted June 18

YMCA of the Triangle

— The volunteer boards of the YMCA of the Triangle and the Chapel Hill-Carrboro YMCA voted this week to merge, giving member families access to more facilities and programs across the region.

Effective July 1, the Chapel Hill-Carrboro Y will become a branch of the YMCA of the Triangle and Chapel Hill-Carrboro employees will become employees of the YMCA of the Triangle.

Included in the deal are plans for a new YMCA location in Chatham County.

A YMCA spokeswoman said fees for classes, which are set at the individual branches, and YMCA membership dues, including memberships to all the Ys in the system, were not expected to change.

It is about time! I never understood why Raleigh was included but not Chapel Hill.

I wish they would add basic gyms around the area.

Fitness Connection was the "decent" gym until they dropped to $10/month and started pushing supplements from the front desk area.

I could see mini-Y's that offer just workout facilities that are actually clean and not sales-oriented.
