Yancey County K-9 shot, killed in kennel

— Authorities are looking for the person who shot and killed a K-9 while it was in its kennel at a deputy's home.

The Yancey County Sheriff's Office said Chris, a Dutch Shepherd, was shot sometime between 8:30 p.m. and 5 a.m. in the Bald Mountain community.

Chris, who had served with the sheriff's office for seven years, died at Reach Animal Hospital due to his injuries.

The county is now offering a $1,000 reward for any information leading to an arrest and conviction in the case.
