Becoming mostly sunny, cooler and less humid by late afternoon. Highs in the upper 80s. Our cold front is moving through the area this morning. The clouds we see at the start of the day will gradually shift eastward though the day leaving most of us with sunshine for the afternoon hours. High pressure builds in upon the area today remains with us through Friday. The air will slowly dry out through the afternoon, so by the end of the day you may notice a drop in humidity. Wind: NW, 5-10 mph.

Mostly sunny and a bit warmer than Thursday but with still low humidity. Highs in the upper 80s-lower 90s. Another rain-free day is expected today, but along with increasing heat over the weekend, we should have a return to some storms by Saturday and especially Sunday. Wind: NE, 5 mph.

Hotter & more humid with an afternoon storm. Wind: S-SW, 5-10 mph.

Sunday

Hot & humid with an afternoon storm possible. Wind: S-SW, 5-10 mph.

Question: I visited Lake Mead, Nevada recently and it was far below normal. How much rain would it take to refill?

Answer: Calculating a specific rainfall amount is difficult because of the large, complex watersheds that feed into the lake. However, it has recently dropped to levels that put it about 9 trillion gallons below normal. Rainfall and snowpack in the region have finally recovered some this year, which should help. The lake has been lower than it is now twice since 1940, taking one and ten years to refill.
