— A Raleigh man died early Tuesday when he was involved in a one-car crash at East Martin Street and Merrywood Drive.

According to the report by police, Calvin Bruce Moore, of 7921 Mandrel Way, 46, was driving a car owned by another Raleigh man when he lost control and slid into a street sign and a large tree.

Police suspect that alcohol and speed played a role in the wreck.

Investigators said State Capitol Police officers tried to stop Moore from going the wrong way down a one-way street, but had suspended their pursuit of him.

A little while later, Raleigh police found the crash scene.

He is from Winston-Salem NC. And was buried there on Sunday. More to the story is the fact that parts of the car were everywhere, including on top of the house of the yard it ended up in. Thank God the owner had not cut down the trees as planned, as she told people who helped remove debris the next day. The street sign became a weapon, tearing down a fence on the opposite side of the yard. All of this terrifying the occupants of the house which included a grandmother and two young girls who's windows were just in line with the disenegrating car that became a weapon. Not to mention the girls were in view of the dead man that was twisted in the wreckage. They are afraid in their own home now. This is a situation where a lot of people suffer and no one wins. It is such a terrible thing that his family and friends and the other family has to suffer through. It is a shame that incarceration does not work to change the actions of others and we waste money on that instead of helping them

What is the State Capitol police's jurisdiction? Did they call RPD when they lost him? Martin/Merriwood is a mile or so minimum from the capitol district, so it is fortunate he got that far without hitting someone or something more than a tree.

The crash site is near the extreme northeast corner of district 24, so there might not have been an officer nearby. There is a mobile police command bus parked a few blocks west of the crash site at Martin and Haywood, but I don't know if it is staffed.

"I wonder how long this person had been in this state/country illegally??" -- Coach K is still GREAT

Long enough to have been given the name of Calvin Bruce Moore at least. Got any guesses as to what state/country he might have come from?

Uh - I'm no profiler, but Calvin Bruce Moore really doesn't sound like a foreign name to me - especially Latino, if that's where you're going.

    Was this person drinking alcohol?

I see that the drivers' side air bag was deployed...not much help with the roof sheared off, I guess.

"That has to one of the worst wrecks I've ever seen. You can't even tell that's a car/vehicle in the picture. WOW!"

Yeah, they should post more pics.

SCPD police stopped the chase when they lost sight of the driver who was trying to evade them by making several turns. So there was no way for the police to know he wrecked or even where. It was also dark if you didnt notice from the pic...someone has to be critical of the police no matter what--so ungrateful
