— National Geographic ranked Wrightsville Beach one of 20 best surf towns in the world, a list that includes beaches in Hawaii, Brazil, California and Bali.

The magazine describes it as a place the whole family can enjoy.

"You can just show up and surf," Mike Barden, a native and the owner of the Surf City Surf Shop, told the magazine.

The best surfing comes on the currents blown up by weather systems offshore, and surfers are known to surge to Wrightsville Beach when the hurricane is in the Atlantic Ocean.

odd, there is not much surf to speak of as compared to the west coast alone. Even Spain and Africa ... awesome surf.
