RALEIGH, N.C. — A wreck involving a suspected impaired driver late Friday knocked out power to hundreds of Raleigh residents overnight, police said.

Police said the wreck knocked over a power pole at Glenwood Avenue and St. Mary's Street shortly before 11:30 p.m. The driver suffered minor injuries and was taken to the jail for processing.

Police blocked traffic on the streets so that Progress Energy crews could replace the power pole.

A Progress Energy representative said 1,900 customers were without power at the height of the outage. Service was completely restored around 4:30 a.m.
