— Authorities closed northbound lanes of U.S. Highway 15-501 in northern Chatham County Tuesday morning just after 6 a.m. when one tractor-trailer rear-ended another in heavy fog near Vickers Road.

State Highway Patrol officials said the the first truck, hauling a load of wood chips, was stopped at a red light. The second truck failed to stop in time and hit the first truck, spilling its load.

A pickup then ran into the back of the second truck.

None of the drivers had life-threatening injuries as a result of the wreck, troopers said.

The cleanup took most of the day, but all lanes of 15-501 were open in time for the evening rush hour.

No charges are expected.

Seems like the driver of the second truck should be charged with exceeding safe speed for the foggy conditions.

I hope everybody is uninjured and is able to learn from this wreck.

And don't forget to thank bad drivers (and those that support them) for your traffic delays.
