Wreck closes westbound I-40/85 in Orange County

— A wreck on Interstate 40/85 in Orange County closed all westbound lanes Wednesday afternoon.

A tractor-trailer and a tanker truck collided near Exit 160 in Efland about 1:30 p.m. There was no immediate information on injuries.

Drivers were detoured at the exit for several miles and returned to I-40/85 at mile marker 157.

All lanes reopened shortly before 4 p.m., but congestion was expected to last through rush hour.

    djcinnc, Sorry to hear about your family member.

    I did not state fault with a truck driver for this wreck in my comment. If your statement about the U-Haul driver is accurate then my comment applies to the U-Haul as a bad driver that needs this feedback from the responsible branch of government.

    LocalYokel - my family member was the driver of the tanker truck. He was in the right hand lane and a U-Haul truck cut him off and then kept driving. Your statement "If only there were........and providing feedback to these bad drivers before they wreck." almost implies you are referring to the truck drivers. I really hope this isn't the case. BTW, my family member is still laying in the Trauma Unit at UNC.

    Wrecks are detrimental to our transportation systems and should be reduced for efficient operation of these systems. Detouring a major highway for hours can lead to extreme transportation delays.

    Bad drivers routinely break traffic laws on I-40/85 and this contributes greatly to the quantity and intensity of wrecks. If only there were a branch of government that was responsible for enforcing traffic laws and providing feedback to these bad drivers before they wreck.
