Wreck closed I-85 northbound in Vance County Sunday morning

Northbound lanes of Interstate 85 at mile marker 217 in Vance County were closed Sunday morning after a southbound tractor-trailer crossed into northbound traffic and hit a car head-on, authorities said.

HENDERSON, N.C. — Northbound lanes of Interstate 85 at mile marker 217 in Vance County were closed Sunday morning after a southbound tractor-trailer crossed into northbound traffic and hit a car head-on, authorities said.

The truck then struck the Satterwhite Point Road Bridge.

The driver of the truck was transported to Duke University Hospital via Duke Life Flight. The driver of the car was transported to a local hospital, but is expected to survive.

The identities of the drivers and the extent of their injuries were not immediately released. Charges are pending against the truck driver, authorities said.

Northbound lanes were reopened at around 11:30 a.m.

The state Department of Transportation will examine the bridge for damage.
