Friday is DTV transition day!

After years of planning, television broadcasts in analog format will cease Friday and be replaced by a digital signal. You can get information by calling the FCC's hotline at 1-888-Call FCC (1-888-225-5322) or reading our DTV help page.

If you do not have cable, satellite or a newer TV with a digital tuner, you will not be able to watch TV unless you have a converter box.

WRAL-TV made the switch at 12:55 p.m.

Viewers who get our signal over the air, using an antenna, will need to rescan their channels in order to find WRAL on our new frequency. The easiest way to do that is to simply unplug your TV for five minutes and plug it back in!

If you have an antenna TV and have not installed a digital TV converter box, there are plenty in stock at area Targets, Wal-Marts, Best Buys and other retailers. The federal government is offering a $40 coupon toward the cost of a converter box. You can apply for the coupon by phone or online but you will have to wait for the coupon to arrive in the mail.

Where to get help

WRAL experts answered questions about the transition live online earlier Friday.
You can also get information by calling the FCC's hotline at 1-888-Call FCC (1-888-225-5322) or reading our DTV help page.
