WRAL anchor Lynda Loveland heading to radio
Lynda Loveland will join the morning crew of WRAL-FM MIX 101.5, beginning Monday. Reporter and weekend anchor Kelcey Carlson will co-anchor WRAL's Morning News.
Posted — UpdatedRALEIGH, N.C. — WRAL News viewers and listeners have a change in store next week when a familiar face becomes a radio voice.
Lynda Loveland, a morning and noon news anchor on WRAL-TV, will join Bill Jordan on WRAL-FM MIX 101.5 starting Monday. Loveland replaces Sherri Logan, who recently left the station to spend more time with her family.
“Lynda brings a treasure trove of qualities to the morning show; she has a wonderful sense of humor, and her core values are aligned with those of our target listener," Ardie Gregory, vice president and general manager of MIX 101.5, said.
Loveland says she is thrilled to make a move that allows her to accommodate her family and to continue her career with Capitol Broadcasting Co, which owns both WRAL-TV and WRAL-FM.
"I've had some of the best years of my life at WRAL-TV," said Loveland, who started at WRAL-TV in 1998.
"I will thoroughly miss my morning TV family. We've become very close. Now, I look forward to expanding my family over at MIX 101.5 and joining Bill, Vanna (Fox) and Wayne (Michaels) in the morning."
WRAL-TV Vice President and General Manager Steven D. Hammel called the move "a win-win-win for our viewers and MIX 101.5’s listeners. This way, she stays in the WRAL family, which makes everyone happy.”
WRAL-TV weekend anchor and reporter Kelcey Carlson will join Bill Leslie, Elizabeth Gardner and Brian Shrader on WRAL’s Morning News.
“Kelcey worked as a morning anchor before coming to WRAL, and she's done a terrific job anchoring on the weekends here," WRAL-TV News Director Rick Gall said. "She brings a blend of credibility and personality that will stand out in our morning news.”
Carlson will anchor the morning news and continue her award-winning investigative reporting.
“I’m delighted to join the morning team I’ve been watching since I moved to Raleigh five years ago," Carlson said. "And I’m really looking forward to continuing to report the issues that are important to our community."
Valonda Calloway will move to WRAL’s Noon News, co-anchoring with Bill Leslie and Elizabeth Gardner, and spend her afternoons on reporting assignments, including Project Education features such as WRAL's “Teacher of the Week.”
The changes take effect Monday, Jan. 26.
