2006 Goodmon Awards Honor Regional Leaders

RALEIGH, N.C. — Two individuals and two groups were honored Monday for their regional leadership in the fifth-annual Goodmon Awards.

Bruce Lightner, chief executive of Lightner Funeral Home, won the Exemplary Regional Leadership by an Individual award for his work with the Raleigh Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration Committee, the MLK Resource Center and the Lost Generations Triangle Task Force.

Orange County Commissioner Alice Gordon won the Exemplary Regional Leadership by an Elected Official award for her work to preserve land in the county and on regional transportation planning.

Triangle United Way won the Exemplary Regional Leadership by an Organization award for its decade of work to promote local human services organizations through financial support and volunteerism.

The High Five Regional Partnership for High School Excellence won the Exemplary Regional Partnership award for bringing together business, faith and education leaders to increase the area's high school graduation rate.

The Goodmon Awards are named for Capitol Broadcasting Co. President and Chief Executive Jim Goodmon and are awarded through Leadership Triangle. Capitol Broadcasting is the parent company of WRAL.
