What kind of lizard is this?

Viewers send lots of e-mails to our newsroom each day. Some criticize us. Some praise us. And some, like one we received today, ask for our help.

Tom and Sheila of Angier sent a short note along with a picture of a lizard:

"WRAL News, we photographed (a) lizard last evening on the side of our house. Can anyone tell us what it is and if it is local to our area?"

I don't know of any lizard experts here in the newsroom, so I thought I'd turn it over to you. If anyone out there can help Tom and Sheila identify their lizard, I'm sure they'd appreciate it!
