WRAL to give away thousands of azaleas

— Applications are once again being accepted for WRAL-TV's annual azalea giveaway. 

Each year, WRAL and its parent company, Capitol Broadcasting, give away 10,000 azaleas to more than 100 nonprofits across North Carolina. MIX 101.5 and NC Beautiful sponsor the annual giveaway. azalea garden WRAL garden begins to bloom

The WRAL Azalea Celebration promotes environmental education and stewardship by helping nonprofits beautify their communities.

Applications with rules and instructions can be downloaded and must be mailed or postmarked by Sept. 16, 2013.

    The application deadline also appears to be incorrect. The information on the 2013 application indicates the postmark date must be before September 6, 2013. The article incorrectly reports this date as the 16th.

    WRAL gives away thousands of azaleas, but let's get real. You give them to non-profits so you can get a tax deduction, pure and simple. Why not let the general public in on that if you have so many to give away.
