WRAL News commissions SurveyUSA, a nonpartisan New Jersey-based polling firm, to conduct scientific polls before statewide elections. SurveyUSA contacts thousands of registered voters statewide at random and collects their responses about candidates and issues facing North Carolina and the nation. The responses are then broken down by various demographic measures, from gender, age and race to income level, education and where people live to provide more insight. All surveys include the margin of error for responses based on the number of people surveyed and other factors.
