WRAL Investigates: Lifesaver or life-taker?

Posted February 6, 2015

A common road safety feature in North Carolina may be causing more harm than good.

Other states feel that’s the case, and they’ve stopped putting up new ones – but not North Carolina. We’ll hear from people who blame this safety feature for their horrific injuries and hear why the Department of Transportation says it still feels confident the devices work.

WRAL Investigates the debate between a potential lifesaver and a potential life-taker, Monday on WRAL’s 5:30 p.m. news.

"Tune in tonight at 5:30 or your entire family could die a horrible death!"

Seriously, WRAL: this is a little tone-deaf and tasteless. If it's important and could save lives, as the teaser implies, then get the ball rolling and tell everyone right away how we can start saving those lives. Using this as a teaser trailer for the evening news is the most cynical, stereotypically sensationalist news tactic anyone could imagine.

Or, just leave it up like this. It makes you look so bad it's kind of hilarious. I think I'll share it on Reddit or somewhere.
