Posted March 29

James F. Goodmon, president and CEO of Capitol Broadcasting Company, the parent company of WRAL-TV, and other media properties, will deliver the 2017 commencement address at William Peace University, the school announced Wednesday.

As part of the ceremony, Goodmon will receive an honorary doctorate degree in humanities.

Goodmon has served as president and CEO of the family-owned company since 1979, guiding an expansion of CBC’s broadcast holdings and growth into satellite communications, new media, real estate, and professional sports.

Capitol Broadcasting Company is also the owner of the Durham Bulls.

At WPU, Goodmon helped establish the Dr. Claire Freeman Cellular and Molecular Biology Lab, named in honor of a family friend, and the Betty Lou Fletcher Goodmon Visiting Scholars Fund, named in honor of his mother, a 1940 Peace graduate.
