David Crabtree 2016 Gabriel Award

David Crabtree on Thursday accepted the 2016 national Gabriel Award for Secular Television Station on behalf of WRAL-TV. It marks the third consecutive year that WRAL has claimed this prestigious award given out by the Catholic Academy. The Gabriel Awards recognize outstanding artistic achievement in media that entertains and enriches with a true vision of humanity and a true vision of life. Entrants only receive an award when “a level of excellence is achieved in values, content, creativity, artistic quality, technical quality or impact.”

“WRAL has a 60-year legacy of striving for excellence in all we do,” said WRAL-TV Vice President and General Manager Steven D. Hammel. “It takes an unwavering commitment from a local ownership group to give our teams the resources to do exemplary work. We’re the local station that will send our journalists around the world for the big stories and aggressively report on local stories that affect our community. We’ve sustained a dedicated documentary unit for years, something few, if any, other stations are doing these days. These are Team awards and we’re very proud to be recognized for the scope of our work."
