Sanford, N.C. — A Sanford teen shot in the face Monday night has died, and a suspect in the shooting has been arrested, police said Thursday.
Officers found the critically wounded 15-year-old in the 500 block of Pineland Street, and he was airlifted to UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill.
The teen, known in the neighborhood as "Junior," was a student at West Lee Middle School.
Pierre Alexander Amerson, 21, of 2581 Bella Bridge Road in Broadway, is charged with murder and possession of a firearm by a felon in the case. Investigators tracked Amerson to a Fayetteville motel, where he was arrested Thursday afternoon. He was being held without bond in the Lee County jail.
Junior's sister, who declined to give her name, said Amerson had been to the family's house before, and she was unaware of any problems between him and her brother.
