Would-be robbers too late for bank heist
Three would-be robbers were foiled in their attempt at a bank heist Monday when their targeted victim completed her deposit before they approached her, authorities said.
Posted — UpdatedThe men followed a woman as she made a business deposit at the automated teller machine outside the Wachovia Bank branch off N.C. Highway 54 in RTP, authorities said. By the time they demanded money from her, she had already deposited the money, authorities said.
The men, described as being in their late teens to early 20s, then fled toward Davis Drive. The Durham County Sheriff's Office was searching for the trio Monday afternoon.
One of the robbers, who was armed with a shotgun, was described as a slim black man, about 5 feet, 8 inches tall with a light complexion. He was wearing a light hooded sweatshirt, a T-shirt and blue jeans.
A second robber was described as a slim black man, about 6 feet tall with a dark complexion. He had very short, braided hair and was wearing a black T-shirt and jeans.
A vague description was provided for the third robber.
