Would-be robber walks out of store empty-handed

print friendly

Burlington police are looking for a man who botched a robbery attempt at a gas station late Sunday.

Police said they went to the Shell station at 2123 S. Church St. about 11:30 p.m. after receiving a call from a clerk, who said a man entered the store and purchased beer.

While at the counter, he handed the clerk a note demanding “all the money from the register.” He did not show a weapon or imply that he had one, police said.

The clerk walked from behind the counter toward the exit, and the man followed. He left the business without obtaining the cash.

The man was described as white, in his early to mid-20s, 5 feet 8 inches to 6 feet tall, thin, wearing a gray, blue and green pullover jacket and jeans.

He was seen getting into the back of a white-over-gray, older model Jeep Cherokee. The clerk said two other people were in the vehicle.

Anyone with information is asked to call Burlington police at 336-229-3500 or Crime Stoppers at 336-229-7100.

You reckon he just chickened out?

Best example of "Not today, sucker" that I have seen in a long time.

Clerk: "Look man. If I give you the cash in the till, I am going to follow that up with a gunshot to your chest. You best be leaving while you have a head start. Starting.....Now!" Maybe?

I have to admit, i'm scratching my head on this one.
