Working Wednesday: New $350M Lockheed Martin facility to create 1,500 construction jobs over 3 years

Slated for completion in 2020, the 266,000-square-foot Gateway Center will feature state-of-the-art facilities for the development, construction and testing of satellites of all sizes, including a thermal vacuum chamber that will simulate space.

The building also will be built to the strict security standards required for national security operations.

"This is our facility of the future: agile, efficient and packed with innovations," said Rick Ambrose, executive vice president of Lockheed Martin Space Systems. "We'll be able to build satellites that communicate with front-line troops, explore other planets, and support unique missions."

Construction on the Gateway Center is expected to last three years and Lockheed Martin says the construction will employ 1,500 contractors.

Lockheed Martin says it has added more than 750 jobs in Colorado since 2014 and currently has about 350 openings in the Denver area.

The company currently employs about 97,000 people worldwide, including more than 4,000 in Littleton.
