FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — Firefighters in Fayetteville rescued a man Monday morning after he fell 8 to 10 feet down a manhole.

The Fayetteville Fire Department said crews were working on a water and sewer project in the Arran Lakes West subdivision when one of the workers lost his footing while climbing from a manhole off Rivergate Road at Lake Haven Drive.

The unidentified man was extricated in about 20 minutes and taken to Cape Fear Valley Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries, according to the fire chief.
