Wonder Woman star reveals she was 5 months pregnant while filming the movie's craziest action scenes

“Wonder Woman” is already smashing the box office, receiving raving critic reviews and breaking records for women in the film industry. And now we have another astounding reason to love the film even more.
A superhero with a bun in the oven
Patty Jenkins, director of the thrilling film, said Gadot is “what Wonder Woman stands for” in real life. And after the news broke out that Gadot filmed much of the movie while five months pregnant, we can’t help but agree.
Gadot announced her pregnancy with her second child to the public in November last year, saying “So excited to share this wonder with you.”
A costume improvisation
That same month, with only four months left in her pregnancy, the 31-year-old actress returned to studios to film reshoots for “Wonder Woman.” But with her protruding baby bump, she couldn’t exactly fit into her costume without showing.
The costuming team and special effects team worked together to improvise - they cut a large triangle from the front of her suit, replaced it with a bright green cloth, and later edited her figure in post-production.
“On close-up I looked very much like Wonder Woman,” Gadot said. “On wide shots I looked very funny, like Wonder Woman pregnant with Kermit the Frog.”
Fighting through action scenes scenes
According to reports, “Wonder Woman” didn’t have a large amount of reshoot days, but the director and producers wanted something extra from several scenes after seeing a cut of the movie.
The pregnant real life superhero jumped right into the film’s action scenes. Filming the final shoots were physically demanding — Gadot had to sprint and perform fight choreography all with a bun in the oven.
“She couldn’t do a huge amount of physical activity,” said producer Chuck Roven, “but she was being aggressive. She still had to be fierce. That was special. I’ve been doing this for a while but I’ve never had that experience before.”
Much of Gadot’s final filming involved Wonder Woman’s climax action scene. Gadot will be able to show her daughter the movie one day and tell her both of them were there in the middle of the action.
Gadot and her husband, Yaron Versano, had their first child five years ago. Near the end of her recent second pregnancy, the Wonder Mom said that with all the daily distractions of career, life and family, she had to take a moment to realize she was already nine months pregnant.
Her second daughter, Maya, was born on March 19. One day after the birth, Gadot said, “and then we were four... She is here, Maya. I feel so complete, blessed and thankful for all the Wonders in my life.”
Real-life Wonder Women
Gadot’s perseverance and dedication to her career — all while dealing with the effects of pregnancy — make us wonder whether she is really a real-life Wonder Woman. Accounts of Gadot and other women balancing (and rocking) motherhood with other endeavors prove that moms truly are superheroes.
