Northgate Mall in Durham
DURHAM, N.C. — Two women were attacked during a robbery Thursday evening outside Northgate Mall in Durham, police said.

A spokeswoman with Durham police said the women, ages 55 and 71, were getting into their car in the parking lot when two men approached and tried to steal their purses.

Police said the men knocked both women to the ground and punched the younger woman in the face during a struggle. They took one purse, which contained cash, credit cards and a phone.

“I was with an elderly family member (so) they thought we were easy targets,” said the younger victim, who asked not to be identified.

“When I was helping her get into our vehicle, they came up behind me and grabbed my purse first, or attempted to grab it. But I hold onto it,” she said. “They pushed me to the ground.”

The descriptions of the men were vague. They were described only as young and wearing hooded jackets.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 919-683-1200. Crime Stoppers pays cash for tips leading to arrests, and callers may remain confidential.
