SPRING LAKE, N.C. — Sheriff's deputies arrested two women Monday who they believe robbed a guest at the Starlit Motel in Spring Lake last Thursday after he turned down their proposition for sex.

Sonya Johnson Claytor, 38, of 909 Whitcomb Drive in Fayetteville, and Brittany Renee Ervin, 21, of 679 Frank Baldwin Drive in Whiteville, face charges of common-law robbery and felony conspiracy.

The man told investigators police that two women knocked his door, and when he refused them, they pushed him to the floor and stole his wallet and fled. The Cumberland County Sheriff's Office had sought Claytor as a person of interest.

A concerned citizen recognized Claytor's picture in the Fayetteville Observer and called authorities, leading to the arrests early Monday, said Debbie Tanna, a spokeswoman for the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office.

Claytor and Ervin were being held in the Cumberland County Detention Center under separate $10,000 secured bonds. They were both to appear in court Monday afternoon.

According to state Department of Correction records, Claytor has convictions in Cumberland, Lee, Johnston and Durham counties dating to 1999. DOC records show she has been convicted of selling drugs, assault and battery, and four counts of obtaining property by false pretense.
