Other versions of this story report that this woman's car was nearby. That heightens my suspicion that this might have been a suicide, but I certainly don't know.

I'm not sure exactly where this was, but it was in a stretch of a half mile or so that is pretty dangerous. There are multiple tracks and a switching yard nearby. A lot of the tracks double as parking for extra train cars, so visibility on the tracks in use is impeded in places. It's also a pretty impoverished part of town, so a lot of people get around on foot, and if cutting across an area of low visibility is considerably quicker than walking a block to a more clearly identified crossing, a lot of people will take that risk.

New york, Jersey trains have about 70 to 100 a year with about half being suicide, or someone pushes you.

I just can't believe these are "suicide by train". That's a horrible way to go. May be folks just arn't looking and listening, or they have music in their ears or are texting. I don't know but we sure do see way too many of these now - at least one a week or more.

I'm wondering if this was a case of someone walking on the tracks. I see it all the time. I feel for the engineers of these trains. A lot of them have psychological issues after incidents like this and go out on disability.

Some people don't respect trains and their tracks. I remember the woman in Morrisville who stopped on the tracks on McCrimmon Pkwy even said she had stopped on the tracks because the light had turned red. She needs to have her license taken away.
