37-year-old woman shot, killed in Durham

A 37-year-old woman became Durham's second homicide victim of 2016 on Monday afternoon, police said.

DURHAM, N.C. — A 37-year-old woman became Durham's second homicide victim of 2016 on Monday afternoon, police said.

According to investigators, Latonya Denise Morris, of Durham, was standing near the intersection of East Main Street and Elm Street at about 1:10 p.m. when someone in a passing blue Lincoln Navigator opened fire, police said. Morris was shot several times and died at a nearby hospital.

No charges have been filed, and no other details were released. Police said the shooting did not appear to be random.

On Sunday night, police found a man's body behind a home on Ashe Street. He also had been shot.
