— A 37-year-old woman became Durham's second homicide victim of 2016 on Monday afternoon, police said.

According to investigators, Latonya Denise Morris, of Durham, was standing near the intersection of East Main Street and Elm Street at about 1:10 p.m. when someone in a passing blue Lincoln Navigator opened fire, police said. Morris was shot several times and died at a nearby hospital.

No charges have been filed, and no other details were released. Police said the shooting did not appear to be random.

On Sunday night, police found a man's body behind a home on Ashe Street. He also had been shot.

Anyone with information about Monday's homicide is asked to call Investigator A. Cristaldi of the Durham Police Department at 919-560-4440, extension 29322, or Crime Stoppers at 919-683-1200.

Another comment made about Durham, but overlooked in Wake Co/Raleigh. We all know the reason Durham is frowned upon, and by who, and the perception of who lives in Durham, and the thought of who runs the government. All this as if Wake Co/Raleigh doesn't have crime, murder, robbery, assault, child porn, fire, drug charges. Because you chose not to comment on it, and overlook it, doesn't mean it doesn't and isn't happening, Allen Jones......

No, Chris. I did not even think about it until I got home. I've had a CC permit for 15 plus years. My bride and I have matching LCR Rugers that have never been fired. I've only fired my 4.2 oz .380 to see if it would jump out of my hand. Never think of anything but protecting my loved ones. 92% of mass shootings(different definitions) since 2005 have been in gun free zones. Why are our gun control politicians surrounded by armed men. They are in far less danger than you are walking around in E Durham.

2nd on the 4th day-I went to DPAC yesterday. Left my gun in the car. Didn't notice gun free zone signs. Must be some. Not to worry. Barry is going to make my giving my daughter a gun a crime. He will end all gun violence. Durham, east of dwntn is a horrible place.
