— A Columbus County woman was shot with a handgun in a vehicle in a parking lot near U.S. Highway 70 in Clayton Friday evening, police said Sunday.

Other occupants of the vehicle drove the woman to Johnston Medical Center in Clayton around 7 p.m., police said. She was transferred to WakeMed in Raleigh. Her name has been temporarily withheld.

Police said they believe the woman and her companions, who are all from out of town, "had an encounter" with one or more people about illegal, controlled substances just before the shooting.

Investigators had trouble piecing together where the shooting occurred because of contradictory statements from the witnesses, police said.

Detectives were seeking one person for questioning Sunday.

Maybe Clayton Police know where it happened as well as other details, but don't see the need to release that information publicly at this time?

Sounds like this was a victimless crime.

So the story should really say .. One Person was Shot, thats the facts. Everything else is a lie.

I'm sure the police report says "somwhere in a parking lot off of Hwy 70".

justiceforall - the story says: "Investigators had trouble piecing together where the shooting occurred because contradictory statements from the witnesses, police said." So, if WRAL tells you all they know based upon what they are told by Clayton Police, you say they should tell you nothing. If they didn't mention the story at all I suspect you would be complaining because they were withholding a significant story.

Seeminglyopposed, it says the police reported the info, surely they know exactly where it happened. If you don't have the details, then you shouldn't be reporting the story.

"A Columbus County woman was shot with a handgun in a vehicle in a parking lot near U.S. Highway 70 in Clayton Friday evening, police said Sunday."

Was the woman in the vehicle or the handgun in the vehicle?

    Sorry...English geek coming out.
